About

Hi, I'm Bali! I'm a freelance creator focusing on web content, interactive media, and digital art. I graduated from the University of Tulsa with a B.A. in Art and a B.Sc. in Computer Simulation and Gaming. I created this website to show a small selection of my work to potential employers and clients. Feel free to contact me for more information.

This page was hand-coded with HTML/CSS/JS.

Projects

Minicomic

A fifteen page minicomic hosted on a custom webpage, both made as I prepare to make a larger project set in the same universe. This is part of a longstanding worldbuilding project I've been doing by myself, as are several of the illustrations I've included on this page. Interactive or animated elements include pagination, progress bar, scrolling text (there are 5 text options depending on which page you're on), and the UFO, which will display a small info box if clicked. The page has a faint CRT texture overlaid, which I included to push an old tech aesthetic.

Altar for the Faith Healer

A small webpage created from the perspective of someone within my fantasy world. A tribute to a fictional televangelist for a fictional religion, created by someone in his doomsday cult. I intended to give this a bit of a rough, unprofessional vibe - something made solely out of passion. Includes several CSS animations. Each of the eyes below the animated "shrine" part should be clickable, showing a different section. All assets are original except for the broadcast static on the third tab, which is a royalty free asset from Pixabay. Eventually, I might add more to this page and/or link it to others.

DataBuzz & Explainer Video

This prototype is interactable! If you are viewing on mobile, I suggest trying the prototype directly on Figma here.

This project was done for an interactive multimedia course during my senior year at the University of Tulsa. Our prompt was to design an application for beekeepers that helps them keep track of their hives. Our end user was also specified to be color blind, which may affect their ability to identify pollens or eggs within the hive. Thus, the final project includes both color blind settings and features that can track and identify life cycles and local pollens. This project was made by a team of four students, including me. My responsibilities included designing the pollen pages, connecting the prototype screens in Figma, and editing the final explainer video (below) in Adobe Premiere Pro. The video includes an explanation of the app in relation to the target user, demonstrating its features as they check their beehive.

Temple Grounds

I created this as a final project for a special topics class in 3D Environments. My aim was to create a stylized, dreamy atmosphere with my project. The only outsourced model here is the palm tree; all animations and textures were made by me. The royalty free background music is Prasad by Siddhartha from freemusicarchive.org

3D Character Turnarounds

Fully textured, low-poly models I made of a few of my original characters. The style here was inspired by early 2000s video games; I chose to retain the "flat" shading rather than making them smooth for aesthetic reasons. While I don't have any plans for an actual game right now, I'm hoping to use these models in some mixed media pieces eventually.

Rhythmic Flow

Another project for my interactive multimedia class - an abstract animation created to go with a song by Colormusic, a band that our professor was acquainted with. This animation was primarily made in after effects, but it also includes a few assets painted in photoshop, as well as a video I took of a real lava lamp as a background during the second scene.

The Cosmic Wheel

Concept art for my personal worldbuilding project, Antisolar Arc. Instead of my usual style, this piece is drawn after the traditional Indonesian art form wayang. Though wayang is most often associated with puppet theatre (i.e., wayang kulit shadow puppets or wooden wayang golek), I primarily referenced wayang beber, stories presented via long, painted scrolls. My dad and his family immigrated from Indonesia before I was born; I'm very interested in the region's cultural arts, taking inspiration from it for my own work.

Gone Fishin'

An illustration made for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign my friends and I finished shortly before I drew this. The setting included a large, swampy region and even a fishing mini game! My character is the one in red on the far right, while the rest of the characters belong to other players. Though, I made my own interpretations of their looks. The single red tree in the background is related to an important plot element.

Abnormal Shrimp

Again, this is concept art I did for Antisolar Arc, based off a piece from the year before. The blue creature being held is an anomalocaris (literally meaning "abnormal shrimp"), a real animal from the Cambrian period. Conversely, the one floating in the sky is a spirit! While I draw regular animals in this setting in my normal style, I depict spirits in distinctive styles - they would appear as "stylized" to the characters as well.

Poker Face

Another piece featuring one of my DnD characters (center) with two belonging to friends (the skull and the man in the background). The skull character is contained within a floating bubble. According to google, 2 and 7 is one of the worst poker hands. Don't ask me, I've only played poker once.

No More Playing House

One more piece of concept art. The facade of a perfect home falls away to reveal a sort of haunting maze. It just so happens that the woman in the picture is the house herself..? In lieu of going into the finer details, I'll let you ponder that one by yourself. This idea was somewhat inspired by House of Leaves.

Final Project for typography, inspired by my interest in herpetology. You've likely seen several frogs on this page already - they're my favorite animal, and I have two of them myself! The first slide shows the printed book along with small pictures of each page, but you can click through the slideshow to see each page in a larger size. The final printed version is an accordian book with the original watercolor animal paintings cut out and pasted in as popups. All information is sourced from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.

Typecasting

A typography self-portrait assignment. This one also includes a pet frog. I tried to incorporate a variety of font sizes and opacities to add a layer of depth while keeping the text component obvious.
